I have chosen to locate my project on the peninsula Spurnpoint. Created by the sea and the tides the promontory was indirectly formed by the interplay of sun, moon and earth. It is situated in the middle of England between the Humber estuary and the north sea, 50 km southeast from the city Kingston upon Hull. (latitude 53°35' north, longitude 0°8' east). In this project the coordinates have been rounded up to 54° north and 0° east.
The time indicated by the sundial corresponds quite precise to the western european time, because Spurnpoint is almost situated at the prime meridian. Only the equation of time has be taken into consideration to get the "precise clock time".

This project aims to promote the understanding of the constellation of earth, sun, moon and stars and its effects on the tides. The recording of time is limited to the precision of the sun. The artifically invented, a constant sunpath assuming, mechanical clock time will not be taken into account!

Als Standort für das Projekt wurde die Halbinsel Spurnpoint gewählt. Sie wurde vom Meer und den Gezeiten und somit von dem Zusammenspiel von Sonne, Mond und Erde geschaffen.
Spurnpoint liegt in der Mitte von England, dort, wo der Humber in die Nordsee mündet. Die nächste größere Stadt ist Kingston upon Hull in 50 km Entfernung.
Die geographische Breite beträgt 53°35' nördliche Breite und 0°8' östliche Länge.
Für das Projekt wird die Lage gerundet auf 54° nödliche Breite und 0° Länge.
Da Spurnpoint ziemlich genau auf dem Nullmeridian liegt stimmt die Zeit, die die Sonnenuhr anzeigt mit der Westeuropäischen Zonenzeit annähernd überein. Um die "genaue UHRzeit" zu erhalten muß jedoch die Zeitgleichung berücksichtigt.

Da in diesem Projekt das Verständnis der Konstellation von Erde, Sonne, Mond und Sternen und deren Auswirkung auf die Gezeiten im Vordergrund steht, beschränkt sich die Erfassung der Zeit auf die Genauigkeit der Sonne. Die künstlich erfundene, eine gleichmäßige Bahn der Sonne vorraussetzende, mechanische UHRzeit bleibt unberücksichtigt!
